First Session
Where Should I Tutor?
Tutoring is to be conducted in our Defining Wizard. Feel free to sit anywhere in the lab. Wherever you sit, sit side-by-side with the tutee (don't be scared). If the lab is to be full and all the tables are taken, there are tables reserved specifically for DW Tutors. If this is the case, and you and your tutee have no where to sit, politely inform one of the occupants of the reserved tables that "there are no more seats available, however, you need their seat so you can begin your tutoring session". If you have a problem with this, ask the DW Representative for assistance.
Is there a dress code?
There is no dress code, however, be mindful that you want to be professional. Therefore, please don't over-dress (formal attire) or under-dress (risqué clothing). This applies to both male and females. (Risqué clothing describes clothing that is too revealing). Relating to the student by your clothing is hard to ask for, but just know your clothes can persuade what a person thinks of you.
Choosing a Table
Most of the tables in the lab only allow for two (2) people to sit at them (rectangle tables); please sit at these tables side-by-side with your tutee. If all the tables are taken, there are reserved tables so that you will always have a place to sit and tutor.
However, for the most part, feel free to sit anywhere. Just note that usually, the round tables just invite for others to come and sit at the same table and possibly distract your tutee from their session.
Personal Hygiene
It is real distracting as a tutee to listen to you and be around you, the tutor, when your hygiene is not well kept. Too much cologne/perfume or sweaty underarms reeking during your session will definitely distract your tutee. So just understand bad smells are distracting! Be mindful of smells coming from the things you eat, drink, and/or smoke (i.e. garlic, onions, coffee, cigarettes, etc.)
During sessions, may I eat some snacks whenever I'm hungry?
Working as a DW tutor you are given the flexibility of making your own schedule. However, please refrain from eating during your work shift; meaning no breaks are to be taken during your shift to go and eat. Please take care of your appetite before you begin work or afterwards, but not during.
Food and drinks are not allowed in Defining Wizard, so please don't eat or drink anything during your session in the Defining Wizard. The only beverage that should be visible on the tutoring tables is water. Anything else is prohibited in the Defining Wizard.
